Falling Back in Love With Art

My love for art started at a young age. As far back as I can remember I adored drawing, colouring, sticking, moulding…you name it! I used to spend hours sitting at the kitchen table with whatever crafts set or colouring book my mum had bought me at that time. Our crafts cupboard was full to the brim with paints, paper and glitter!

Then when I started school, of course, my favourite subject was art….I didn’t have much time for boring subjects like maths, I wanted to be creative! I kept this up until I had a run in with my Head of Sixth Form, who didn’t regard art as a proper subject *pffft*…but I won’t go into that…

Somewhere along the line, however, art kind of faded into the background. I guess life and working full time *snore* got in the way. Once every few months I’d dig out the pencils and draw something small in my sketchbook, but that really was only once in a blue moon. Once finished, my sketchbook would be thrown back in the drawer to gather dust for another few months.

That was until recently when I decided to start illustrating this blog. Though the drawings on here are just quick doodles, it reignited my love for drawing and it has inspired me to dedicate more time to art again.

I even decided to get the paints out, something I hadn’t done in years, and it turns out my skills aren’t as rusty as I thought I would be…If I can say so myself! I could definitely improve, but that all comes with practice.

There’s something really therapeutic about sitting down on a Sunday afternoon and putting paint to canvas. You could probably say it’s a lot more rewarding than a Sunday Netflix marathon too! Saying that, I usually combine the two activities, by propping my iPad up in front of me when I’m painting and watching back to back episodes of my latest guilty pleasure. It’s win win!

Don’t judge me, but I’ve even started making my own Christmas cards, meaning I’ve either suddenly regressed or aged around 20 years….or I’m just cheap.

I’ve officially gone all arty farty again…please don’t hate me.
