Are you after the party of all parties? Well there’s only one place to go…
Yep, you’ve got it, Ibiza!
It’s renowned for its amazing nightlife, it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the weather’s pretty glorious too. So it’s no wonder that thousands of holiday makers flock there each year, in anticipation of a trip full of revelling in the sun.
Though most people envisage the party scene when they think of Ibiza, there’s so much more to the White Isle than the clubs. Whether you’re after a relaxing beach break, a never ending party, or a mooch around the hippie markets, it really does have something to offer everyone.
Here are some of our top reasons why Ibiza should be on your bucket list and what you should take with you.
Why go to Ibiza?
Ok, let’s cut to the chase, the nightlife in Ibiza is pretty much unrivalled by anywhere else. It’s home to some of the most famous clubs in the world, you can catch the globes top DJs playing in breathtaking settings and parties go on around the clock. It’s not called the island that doesn’t sleep for nothing!
The fun isn’t isolated to the clubbing scene however, as there are plenty of atmospheric beach bars, pool parties and boat trips to get your dose of what the island has to offer.
If you’re big into your clubs, you really haven’t lived until you’ve visited Ibiza.
One of the best and most popular night spots has got to be Pacha. Having been up and running for over 40 years, it has evolved into a brand in itself, owning a chain of restaurants, hotels, a DJ agency, a magazine and a world famous tour. Other top haunts include world renowned Space, Privilege, Ushuaia and Amnesia, which host some of the wildest parties on the island!
Opening and Closing Parties
The biggest events of the entire Ibiza season are definitely the opening and closing parties.
Taking place at the beginning of the summer when people are in high spirits at the thought of a break from the rain, the opening parties are definitely some you want to make it to. Kicking off at the end of May and beginning of June, crowds gather as the clubs and bars open their doors for the first time that year.
The absolute craziest parties of the year have got to be the closing parties, however, as everyone congregates to bid farewell to another wild season on the White Isle. All of the biggest clubs hold a closing party in September, bringing some of the biggest names playing and crowds who really mean business. You know the saying, go big and then go home!
One of the best things about Ibiza has got to be the pool parties, because what better way is there to catch your favourite DJs playing, than out in the sunshine with a cocktail in hand?
Ushuaia hosts some of the world’s biggest pool parties, attracting thousands of people to each event. Located in Playa d’en Bossa, the hotel turned party venue features a stunning stage that overlooks the mile-long crescent of sand, which has become the epicenter of the beach party experience in Ibiza.
On the other side of the island, Ocean Beach has given the people of San Antonio a genuine beach club experience, with a stunning pool as the focal point.
Take your partying out to sea by hopping on a boat and catching a glimpse of the beautiful Ibizan coastline.
The boat party has become a staple part of the Ibiza experience and there are numerous trips to choose from depending on the day you are after. Most parties will offer a complementary drink upon arrival, or even an open bar if you’re lucky, but one thing for sure is that you’re guaranteed a lot of fun!
The party doesn’t finish at the end of the excursion, however, as lots of the companies offer free entry to one of the clubs with each booking, so your party can continue throughout the night.
The Sunset Strip
Nothing quite beats the view of the sunset over the Mediterranean, as you let your hair down with a cocktail in hand. The Sunset Strip in San Antonio has one of the best views on offer and there are endless bars and restaurants around for you to catch the last rays of the day. Cafe Del Mar, Cafe Mambo and Savanna are some of the most sought after spots and frequently have live music and popular events going on.
There are more than 70 beaches in Ibiza, varying from lively tourist spots offering watersports and parties, to quiet white sandy paradises and rocky coves. The coastline offers a huge variation, meaning there really is somewhere for everyone to enjoy the glistening Balearic sea.
You can often find live music and DJs on the busier beaches such as Playa d’en Bossa, which is lined with bars and restaurants attracting a lively clientele. This is where the party is at, so if you’re after peace and quiet you may want to look elsewhere!
For a chilled out day at the beach in a happening area, we recommend you head to Cala Jondal. Set in a secluded bay in San José, the beach offers some of the most atmospheric bars and restaurants, without the noisy atmosphere of Playa d’en Bossa.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, where you can kick back and forget about life’s problems, one of the more secluded beaches such as Cala Xuclar, a quiet cove on the North-West of the island or Cala d’Hort, which is part of a protected National Park, may be up your street.
A touch of culture
If you’re after something a little more cultured than fish bowls and a loud bass-line, Ibiza actually has plenty to offer in terms of art and history.
A trip to the Old Town in Ibiza Town will leave you feeling as though you’ve gone through a time tunnel, thanks to the largely untouched maze of cobbled streets and architecture, including the romantic Medieval castle, Dalt Vila. Get exploring to test out some of the island’s traditional cuisine in the hidden restaurants of the back streets and get chatting to the locals for a more authentic Ibiza experience.
While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the hippie markets, where you can discover an abundance of hidden treasures, including handmade goods, souvenirs and bargains on clothes and jewellery.
If you’re looking for an escape from the hedonistic atmosphere that comes with Ibiza, Formentera is just a short boat ride away and can be just the answer to a relaxing break away from the crowds.
The small island has become a firm favourite among the rich and famous, boasting an exquisite variety of food and drink, gorgeous white sandy beaches and breathtaking views. The crystal clear sea is fantastic for snorkeling, diving and fishing and the beaches are left unspoiled, allowing you to take in the true serenity of the island.
Can Marça Caves
It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of Ibiza, with stunning views made up of emerald oceans, towering cliffs and gorgeous sandy beaches, but tucked away out of sight are hidden treasures such as the Can Marça Caves. The caves can be found on the north of the island in the Port of Sant Miquel and are a popular attraction among visitors, thanks to the fossilised waterfalls and streams, ancient markings from the smugglers who first discovered the caves, and a stunning panoramic viewpoint of the bay from the highest point of the course.
Where to stay?
Ibiza is the perfect destination for a party holiday, a romantic break or spending some quality time with the family. The key is simply knowing where to go.
Doing your research prior to booking is essential to getting the holiday you’re after, as there is nothing worse than finding yourself in a noisy party resort when you’re after a bit of R&R and vice versa.
San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa are the livelier resorts on the island, ideal for a younger crowd looking for a good party.
Ibiza Town is the Capital and has something to offer everyone, from a buzzing nightlife and quality cuisine, to an intertwining maze of streets full of high end fashion and boutiques.
Santa Eulalia, Cala Llonga and Portinatx have a more laidback vibe to them and are perfect for families and couples looking for a quieter holiday.
